The Nature journals provide some writing advice on a web page How to write a scientific paper within our (free access) authors’ and reviewers’ website. As well as writing advice, this web page contains links to various online resources and services. We welcome suggestions for more, from people who have found useful sites while writing their papers (this Nature Network forum is included!).
There is also a forum thread in this group which provides links to a range of articles about how to write scientific papers.

    • Hi,

I only recently joined Nature Networks and am still catching up.

Has there been a discussion about guidelines for images and image processing on the good paper journal club?

Images are so often the key part of a paper and a couple of years ago (Well maybe about four now!) there was a lot of discussion in the scientific press about developing new guidelines to keep up with the technology. Despite being so long ago I know lots of people who are unaware that such detailed guidelines have been written by several journals, including nature.

    • Thanks for mentioning the Nature journal guidelines, Samantha. As you say, many journals now have detailed guidelines for authors, and their own internal checking procedures for images.
I think that discussion in this forum is intended to be focused on specific, well-written papers. So although I am sure there has been discussion at Nature Network about this topic, I am not so sure it would have been in this particular forum. There is a “visualisation in science” (? not sure if that is the actual title, but it is something like that) forum which would be a good place to post your question. (You can find it via the Nature Networks forum index page.)
You could try searching Nature Network by tags (eg images, visualisation) to find previous discussions – assuming people have been good about their tagging!

    • Thanks Maxine.
