Figures are an important part of a well-written paper. The following paper is a nice summary of the topic of error bars in these figures:

I think I can fairly say that Dr Vaux has been instrumental in _Nature_’s error-bar vigilance! Error bars are even enshrined on our “green checklist”: no manuscript can progress from acceptance into production until all boxes are ticked.
