It was spring 2007 and i was reading one of the issues of the economist, not really the most appropriate reading for a scientist working on stem cells, but you never know where to find inspiration…and there you go: an article about 454 life sciences acquisition plans by a well known biotech company and hidden between the line a concept “personal ized genetic service”, an idea, a business idea…
By the end of 2007 the two first companies were founded (one was actually pre-existing but wasn’t offering the service), and by 2008 the third in US and the first in europe…well, this is a trend but what next?
These comapnies are offering snp genotyping to individuals willing to learn their predisposition to a list of about 30 conditions such as alzheimer, myocardial infarction, hypertension, obesity, balness…and many others.
What do scientists think about this type of service?
Will scientists take the test?
