OECD event including e-Science

I know there are lots of e-Science related events, but since this is one I’m associated with, I thought I’d mention it. There will be a track at the OECD Participative Web forum next week on e-Science. Some suggested questions for the track are
= What innovation-relevant lessons can be learned from e-science (e.g. grid computing, bioinformatics)?
= What are the impacts of the participative web and “open innovation” on scientific research and computation-intensive business applications?
= How are new applications changing expert and public debate, including diverse and alternative views?
If you have particular questions or feedback for the discussion panel, I’d be happy to pass them along, it’s one of my connector roles as a blogger for the event.
For more about the discussion tracks see the programme (PDF)
The event will be webcast live.

Thanks, Richard.
Another forthcoming event worth pointing out is Microsoft’s eScience Workshop at UNC Chapel Hill:
https://www.mses07.net/main.aspxI’ve attended the last two of these and they were excellent. (Unfortunately I can’t make this year’s event.) It looks like registration closes today, 1st October, so anyone who’s not signed up will need to get a move on…

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the information about the oecd event. I am new to that group and watched a bit of the discussions. I thought it was great. So, I have been wondering when are we going to have a virtual conference (likely in Second Life)? I haven’t had enough experience with that space (yet) to organize one myself so I wondered if you may know of some one who has or is going to (anyone at Nature – hint)? Thanks.

Hi Craig, we could probably set up a session as part of SciFoo Lives On in Second Life
I can talk to Jean-Claude about starting the planning if you’d like.
A session on cyberinfrastructure/e-science would be timely give the upcoming NSF window for solicitations on Cyber-Enabled Discovery and Innovation (CDI).
Incidentally, the archived webcast of the e-science stream at the OECD is now online, it’s in Windows Media format. The actual event starts 5 minutes into the stream (the first five minutes are dead air waiting for the session to get started).
