Hello!!
I´m doing a research about Biofuels made of fruit or vegetables or any product related to these plants.
I would like to know if there are any articles or any other research going on in this subject ? Does anyone know how to find this kind of information??

bio-diesel seems viable here’s an example.

The castor oil mentioned by Scott is derived from the fruit of Ricinus communis and not from J. curcas. It is related to JCL at family level (Euphorbiaceae).

You can make bio fuel with any organic material by simply fermenting it. You can use all types of plants, but plants like corn and soy bean produce a higher yield of methanol bucause of their high concentration of glucose.

Fruits and Bio fuel?As you know fruit processing plants that produce preserved fruit juices also produce solid wastes. If these wastes are fine sized using machines such as shredders will become excellent feed to bio gas plants that produce gas containing around 60% methane. There are two important things to note. 1 The minimum economic size of the plant requires 8 metric tons of organic material on dry basis as feed and the plants should be automatically controlled. If we don’t get 8 tons of waste from the fruit processing plant the deficiency can be made4 up using cattle dung or other compostable organic matter. Obviously from the point of view of hygiene the bio gas plant should be located far away from the fruit processing plants. 2 The out put slurry from the bio gas plant gives manure if the water is separated and recycled to the plant. How ever it is difficult to sell this manure to the farmers as its nutrient value is low. The manure can be converted into Phosphate Rich Organic Manure [PROM] by simply mixing the manure with fine sized rock phosphate mineral which is as efficient as any other phosphatic chemical fertilizer. This is actually the first time I heard about fruits being processed into biofuel. (I might have missed that article from Nature)
I see some good and bad things from this idea though.
Of course the good one is that we would be having an alternative source for energy. But the bad effect could outweigh the positive one. It would be inevitable that people would one day abuse the use of this idea and could lead to worldwide starvation.Just my two cents, I just wanted to express my opinion on what would be coming when we follow this path. :)
