William Burns writes elsewhere at Nature Network that the European Science Foundation want to develop impact factor measurements for the quality of various history and philosophy of science journals. This has caused quite a stir, as described in William’s post. There is also some discussion there between him and Martin Fenner about the effect of impact factor on readability of papers – not, I think, a particular issue that has been discussed in this Citation in Science forum.
