Glycosylation and Glycans

How about the glycosylation (modification in proteins)? For eg. some immune receptors needs to be glycosylated for its function. So how is that different from the glycans? Is that same or different?

Are you asking: do the glycans have a separate function? or will different glycans on the same receptor alter its function?
