The future of glycan databases

What is the best approach for the glycobiology community to pursue future support for an international database of glycan structures and associated databases of spectroscopic data for these glycans?

How should such a database be curated?

    • This is a critical issue at this time. Representatives of the leading glycan databases will discuss this at the second Warren Workshop.

    • I think one of the things that need to be discussed about such databases is how to include new forms of data. For example, our lectin microarray data (and that of others) would ideally be posted in a central database that could be integrated with the other glycomics databases, including carbohydrate microarray data on the lectins. At the moment, it does not seem that there is much support in creating a more generalized database where users with different platforms could upload and share data.
