India making waves at CERN

Well…… India is really shining bright at CERN. Actually it has been making its presence felt from quite sometime. Namely the collaboration between ALICE and SINP, VECC in Kolkata and many other institutes all over India, Dr. Bikash Sinha leading the ALICE India contingent and Archana Sharma Ma’am as one of the leading scientists of CMS . All of the above and many more tie-ups have resulted in 11 Indian students(one of the largest contingent from the Non-Member states this year), being given the unique opportunity of interning at CERN and being a part of the prestigious CERN summer student programme, for the first time (but certainly not the last).I am really lucky to be one of them. It has really been a dream come true for all of us.This is the beginning and I am sure we will have many more meritorious students, in the future, continuing to make waves at CERN. So hereby thanking all those who have helped facilitate this internship, specially Bikash Sinha sir, Archana ma’am and the authorities of our respective colleges. Thanks a ton…. :D

And specially for all those future Indian(and other) summer students… CERN is really a great n happening place …!!! You all will surely have the time of your lives (rather the summer of your lives) out here….!!! :D

Cheers
Aranya !!!

    • Dear Aranya,

Thanks very much for your kind words!

The mere reward of thinking that it was a fruitful exercise for all students, is worth the effort all over again! Indeed we need to thank Dr. Bikash Sinha, without whose optimism and vision this would have been impossible. Dr. Swapan Bhattacharya from NIT Durgapur also deserves special mention and so does Dr. Reddy from NIT Calicut. Not to forget Drs. Vinu Palissery and Nirmal Roy who coordinated it all at the Indian end. All your supervisors too must be thanked for taking the task on, and we cannot forget to mention Dr. John Ellis, without whose persistence this was an impossible task.

So kudos to all of you for making a mark, and as you say heralding a new era in technical education for Indian students hand-in-hand with CERN.

All the best for your future endeavours!
      Archana Sharma

    • Hi everybody,
Sorry ma’am for the late reply….Aranya had so neatly put everything into his monologue that i really didnt know what to write….So, i was practically waiting for SOMETHING to happen.Well as for the extremely high level of academics and research work at CERN, its no use mentioning the well known fact over and over again….i mean the LHC and all…..
Neither am i going to consume your time repeating what ma’am and Aranya have already mentioned regarding the Indian contingent.
      How about some fun:
On the 21st day of the month of July,2009….our dear friend,Arun Kumar Soma, had organized an Indian party for the summer students to enjoy at a well known restaurant in Geneva. The best part of it was that students of our age from all over the world, were enjoying Indian food and dancing to typical Indian music at a place like Geneva.I hope we are all understanding how far reaching the waves that have been made by India at CERN are…..
