Hello all,

I´m new here in this forum, and I´d like to ask you some quetions in the field. I´m writing a work about a theory I´m developing, wich I´d like to be a good contribuition for the cognitive sciences.

With this propose I´d like to ask you all what are the main periodicals especialyzed in cognitive sciences like JCS, and even the general and specialized (neurobiology, computer, etc) sciences periodicals like Science and Nature wich frequetly publishes relevant papers about cognitive science.
I´m also interested at the publications on animal-human cognitive studies like those who compare human to apes cognition features.

It´s important for me to know the main veichles of cognitive science publications for me to contextualize my work with the state of the art in cognitive science.

Thank you for your help

    • Dear Gilberto, many thanks for opening this Forum. As the Cognitive Sciences compose an interdisciplinary field, you may find relevant publications dispersed in many journals, some more attached to Brain Sciences, others to Linguistics, many others to Computation, and so on.

      I mention some journals:
      - Minds and Machines
      - Trends in Cognitive Sciences
      - International Journal of Computational Cognition
      - Cognitive Brain Research
      - Cognition
      - Brain and Behavioral Sciences
      - Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience
      - Cognitive Sciences
      - Cognitive Systems Research
      - Axiomathes
      - Phenomenology and the Cognitive Sciences
      - Social Cognitive and Affective Neurosciences
      - Cogprints

    • Thank you Alfredo,

I’m writing an article proposing a solution to the main open questions on cognitive sciences, I will submit it to some publications and also will post here at the Nature Network consciousness forum for you all who work at this field to analize maybe this week.

See you at the EBICC 2009. By the way, the login system at the EBICC site is not yet working. Do you know when it will be properly working?

      Bests regards,

      Gilberto

    • Thank you Hans Ricke,

I found and read lots of articles on all those sources. I’m writing an article with the researchs I’m doing.

But as I don’t have previously works on the field, also I’m not working directly with scientific research for a long time (10 years), and I’m not associated with any university or scientifc instituition, I’m looking for a publication channel that is more likely to accept my contribution.

Thank you and Alfredo for you attention.
      Gilberto

    • By the way,

I was reading the preprint policy from Nature and Science magazines,

And I read that Nature accepts that their submitted papers can be preprinted at arxiv.org and some others preprint servers, and also be presented at scientific congress, and at scientifc foruns like this.

On the other hand, I read that Science don’t accept so.

Do any one know, or have any experience with these pre-publishing policies from others magazines? I read some authors information on other publications, and most of them don’t have many pre-plubishing policy instructions.

If anyone here could explain his experience for me, I would thanks.
      Gilberto

    • Dear Gilberto,

if you look around here on Nature Network, you will find some of the editors like Corie Lok, Maxine Clarke and Noah Gray. There are groups and forums about these issues too.
Just approach them, they most likely will point you in the right direction.

      Yours friendly
      Hans

    • Gilberto, you can try the group Nature Precedings here in Nature Network, but it is not directly related to the Nature Journal. The CogPrints online journal that I mentioned above is also an alternative.
      Alfredo

    • Dear Hans Ricke,
Thank you, I will look for them.

      Dear Alfredo,
I saw Nature Precedings instructions, and there says that they only accept preprinted manuscripts from researchers associated at a research institute or university. But thanks you and Hans helps that encourage-me to go ahead. I’m also trying to contact Ricardo Godwin at Unicamp to ask for a possibity to participate at the EBICC 2009 as an author after the expired submition date. I’ll try once at least because I really think my work is valuable and can be a good contribuition to the comunity.

By the way, I’m really thinking on submiting my work as a paper at Nature Journal. Do you or Hans know any scrict restrictions for independent researches to be accepted as an author there? You can tell me the worst possible picture for also.

Thank you very much for your attention,
      Gilberto

    • Another question to you Alfredo and Hans,

I’m trying many times to upload my photo to my profile here at Nature Network and it don’t works. I tryied to upload files with less than 30kb as is at the instructions, with jpg and png format, and it doesn’t worked. Do you have any hint to me?

      Gilberto

    • Gilberto, you cannot submit directly to Nature, first you have to ask them a permission and the chances are 99,99% of being rejected, for several (legitimate) reasons. About the photo: I don´t know how to help you, my photo was uploaded at the first attempt.
