Not much new on the job front, though there is this.

We were talking about careers before the start of our last Meet the Author event, held this past Wednesday. (Tom Gunning spoke, and I’ll have the material up online as soon as we can get it added to the site.)

It seems some of you knew early on that you wanted to do research. Some people are just lucky in that way — they know at a young age what fascinates them, and they get to spend their lives pursuing it. My dad was like that. He’s a mechanical engineer, and he was the sort of kid who took apart the lawn mower in the driveway and rebuilt it just to see how it worked.

Me? I think my first desire was to be a boxer (probably after seeing Rocky). I think my parents were happy to see that one fall to the wayside.

Did any of you initially want to be a ballerina, a fireman or president? Or was it always the Petri dish?
