The article not only explains why platform firms are again gaining favor, but also how to build one from the ground up. Clearly, things have changed since platform companies were all the rage — back when a platform firm could go public on the strength of a couple of big pharma partnering deals — but the industry has use for them again. The key to successfully creating one, Lanza writes, is focusing solely on the technology and avoiding the siren call of developing drugs alongside it. Historically, that does not end well.
