Hi!
I was wondering if I need a strong publication record (number of papers) to have a good chance of becoming an editor in Nature. Is this something that has a strong influence on one’s application?
Thanks!

Hi Alejandro
It certainly helps, if you want to become an editor who assesses research submitted to Nature (or other Nature journal), to have published some good papers.
However, there are other editorial positions where this is not so important – commissioning editors, sub/copy editors and production editors for example, or project managers (who coordinate publishing projects such as journal launches or new websites).
You certainly need a good c.v. (very good education and good grades, for example, and fluency in more than one language is also a plus). You also need to be demonstrably interested in science communication.
But a stellar publication record is not necessary for all editorial positions. Of course, a specific job opening will have the specific requirements written in the advertisement – or be available upon request.
