I was wondering if you can refer me to a place where I can find information about scholarships for scientists who want to try science writing (fiction, non-fiction). Thank you.

    • Dear Maya
I am afraid I have no idea about writing scholarships – your question is somwhat outside the scope of this forum, though you could certainly check out our resource page on our author and referee website (see first entry on this forum by Corie Lok).
There is a science writers’ group on Nature Network where you could ask if any members know about such scholarships; I believe that most of the writers in that group are non-fiction writers rather than creative/fiction writers. You could also look at lablit.com, a very good website for fiction-in-science and culture. I am not sure if they link to resources, but the site does have a forum discussion section where you could ask your question.
I am sure you can find other ‘writing advice’ resources by looking around the Internet and elsewhere.

    • Dear Maya,

I hope this information will be useful for you… if you can speak Spanish:

At our centre (Science Communication Observatory, Pompeu Fabra University, www.upf.edu/occ) we have one or two scholarships for people that are attending our Master Degree on Science Communication each year. People that receive those financial help will work with us in any particular project for a maximum of a year.

You can find more information about our Master Degree and other programs at a directory made by EC about Science Journalism (http://ec.europa.eu/research/conferences/2007/bcn2007/guide_to_science_journalism_en.pdf). Probably, some other programs (English ones) have scholarships too.

    • Maya, if you’re interested in science journalism, you should look into the AAAS Mass Media Fellowship. You should also check out the website of the National Association of Science Writers. It should have information about fellowships/awards and graduate programs in science writing/journalism.

    • Thank you all!
I will systematically look up the websites you have suggested.
      Maya
