Hi, I’ve been trained as a lab scientist. I would like a career change and would like to consider scienitific publishing. Are excellent language skills required to be a Editor? What other qualifications are essential in order to be a good editor? Thanks in advance!

Dear Elizabeth
Thank you for your questions. If you go to the main page of this forum, you will find answers to your questions, in several of the discussions we have been having here. You’ll also find links to helpful advice and resources at the Nature journals’ author and referees website.
In short – there are various types of editing jobs – handling submitted manuscripts, commissioning articles written by scientists, sub(copy) editing, science journalism, and so on.The qualifications are different for each of these. Check out this forum, where these are explained and discussed – then if you have any further questions not answered there, please ask them here, and I or a colleague will do my/our best to answer.
Best wishes
Maxine.
