For people interested in an editorial position, all the current vacancies at Nature Publishing Group are listed on this page. There is a separate category for editorial posts. At time of writing (15 April 2008), there is a position in _Nature_’s team of editors for a neuroscientist; a locum editor position at Nature Cell Biology: an associate editor position at Nature Chemistry (a new journal that will be launched early in 2009): and other positions at Nature Protocols, Nature Clinical Practice and others. Many of these jobs are appropriate for suitably qualified scientists wanting to embark on a career in scientific journal editing. Positions are advertised on the page I’ve linked above as they come up, so it is worth bookmarking it if you might be interested in applying in future. You can also read about the different types of editorial opportunities at NPG.
I will add editorial vacancies, as they come up, to this forum thread, as “replies”.

The “work @ NPG” page you mention, Helen, is the first link in my post at the top of this thread. (To save anyone clicking twice.)

This might be a bit off the topic since I’m not yet ready to apply for a “real job” (whatever this might be).
I’m still a phD student, working in the field of tumor immunology and autoimmune disease, aiming to be done by the end of that year. Since I’m really interested in gaining an insight into other science-related jobs away from the bench, especially in the field of publishing – I would like to know whether it is in general possible to apply for an internship at NPG to get some ideas and experiences of how things work. I’ve read about the regular program of NPG, offering internships which usually starts (if I remember right..) in september.
So my question is if its possible in general to get a chance to get an insight into Nature Publishing Group (between 6 and 12 month)apart from the regular program and if anyone can give me an advice concerning my (hopefully not too naive) idea.
I would really, really appreciate it since I’m more than excited to get a chance to both gain an insight into NPG and the work as an editor and hopefully prove people that I could contribute!
Thanks in advance, and sunny greetings from BerlinKatha

Dear Katha
Details of the internship scheme are here.
Although this particular advertisement has a closing date of May, I think it is worth sending in an application, stating the date on which you can start, and to ask for it to be held until the next round of appointments. I believe that the scheme does not have a rigid “hiring frame”, so you might find that a department has an ad hoc vacancy.
You may also be aware of the regular writing internships in Nature’s Munich office — see here
There are a few other posts in this forum about internships at Nature Publishing Group, also. -
Thanks a lot for the quick reply! So it was worth sending some sunny greetings out in the world wide web- even if the sun is gone here now…
