I’m checking my preparations for the SfN meeting in Chicago, Oct. 17-21. A huge exhibit hall and probably over 25,000 folks at the meeting.

Are you presenting something? Will you blog the meeting?

No, I’ll be one of the residents of the exhibit hall, standing at booth 1919 and chatting with those interested. That’s an interesting part of my work, a chance to meet folks face-to-face and talk about their research. Standing on the carpeted concrete floor in a 10×10 foot space for 8+ hours can be tough by the third day though.

Hope you’ve been doing stamina training for this – I’d be exhausted after 1 day!
Hope it’s a fun meeting for you – what will you be talking to people about?

The company I work for manufactures custom-sequence Morpholino antisense. We’re well established in developmental biology, but less so in cultures and adult animals, so Neuroscience has to potential to be a good conference; I’ve been to Neuroscience a few times through the past decade, but this time I’ve a new in-vivo antisense delivery system to discuss. I’ll be offering information about our gene knockdown method, chatting with folks about their research and pointing out possible applications of Morpholinos in their work. It makes for satisfying days — although there will be some cases where I see now way to help, in many cases I can offer a new approach and help investigators understand the potential of a new tool. I can continue to support their projects after I return to our company in Oregon, USA. Some of my time every day is taken supporting Morpholino users by email, phone and internet chat; I really enjoy adding some face-to-face conversation.

“although there will be some cases where I see now way to help” should have been: …cases where I see no way to help…
An edit option available after posting would be very nice.
