I’m making a little video (slideshow) for the web about lab waste, because I suddenly realized that when I’m at home I’m very aware of how much I consume, but at the lab I mindlessly throw away tons of 50ml tubes that I only used for a few minutes. I had this idea a few weeks ago but only recently got time to work on it.

I’m adding suggestions for lab waste reduction at the end, and would like to make that list as collaborative (but concise) as possible. In the blog post linked above I list some of my own, and if there is anything you’d like to add, leave me a comment here or there. You will be credited at the end of the video, but I don’t yet know if I can credit your suggestions specifically (I can do that on the website I want to put the video on, but not easily in the thing itself)

NB: this is mostly about material consumption (objects), not about CO2/water/electricity consumption. So while it’s a great idea to limit the number of tissue culture incubators and fridges as much as possible, and turn the lights off at night, that isn’t relevant to the video.
