        Migration and Mobility
        Specialisms
        Changing hospital interfaces
        Workforce
        Chronic conditions

The biannual conference of the European Primary Care Forum in 2008 has an essentially exploratory purpose. Its aim is to enable participants to identify, define and then appreciate the significance of those critical questions which will determine the future of primary care in Europe. The Forum is looking to support contributions which address, in particular, issues of equitable access, cost effectiveness, clinical quality and the maintenance of continuity of care. Both urban and rural settings are relevant, with their differing but equally important modern pressures.

Abstract for a special preconference workshop at the 2007 NAPCRG meeting.

Joining an International Collaborative Research Network to investigate multimorbidity in primary care.

Objectives: To use a group process to develop a research agenda for the study of multimorbidity. Content: We will build on ongoing dialogue within an existing virtual international community of professionals interested in multimorbidity (International Research Community on Multimorbidity or IRCMo) to accomplish the following tasks: 1. Refine the definition of multimorbidity for application to clinical investigation and care; 2. list the top 5 areas that are ripe for investigation (e.g. measurement of morbidity, processes of care, development of appropriate outcomes measures); 3. discuss specific methodologies and approaches for each target area; and 4. solicit input on potential funding sources for this non-disease specific area of investigation. Method and schedule: One month prior to the conference, enrolled participants will be contacted and encouraged to participate in the ongoing online discussion above. The first half-day will include short presentations (working papers) to outline current knowledge on multimorbidity including results of the on-line discussion, followed by small group meetings each of which will address the topics outlined above. During the second half-day, the full audience will address the specific topics, led by reports from the small groups. Finally we will synthesize the discussions into an outline for a working document that will be subsequently distributed to all workshop participants. Prerequisite knowledge: None Audience: 25 to 35 professionals with an interest in investigating or caring for patients with multimorbidity. Rationale: Care for patients with multimorbidities is complex, costly, often fragmented and currently under-studied. Endorsement: This preconference workshop is endorsed by the NAPCRG Special Interest Group on Multimorbidity/Comorbidity and is supported by the Canadian Institute of Health Research.
