Dear Colleagues,

It is a pleasure for me to announce the

4th International Symposium on
Experimental Standard Conditions of Enzyme Characterizations (ESCEC)

September 13th – 16th, 2009
Ruedesheim, Germany

This symposium organized by the Beilstein-Institut together with the STRENDA commission provides a platform to discuss the proposed check-lists for enzyme data standardization and to interconnect the efforts of further standardization initiatives.

In particular, the conference affords the opportunity to discuss the following topics:

  • organisation and storage of massive enzyme data sets in standardised and easily accessible forms,
  • development of experimental tools to gather and configure such data into interactive models,
  • ensuring data identification by the use of accepted molecular identifiers,
  • determination of the minimum required information and the minimum set of parameters to be measured,
  • pitfalls and difficulties which arise from non-standardised and non-comparable functional enzyme data,
  • alternative ways to overcome these difficulties

On behalf of the organizing committee I cordially invite you to come to Ruedesheim and to take part in our standardization conference sharing your results and ideas with the scientific community.

Ruedesheim is located ca. 50 km north of Frankfurt airport which can be reached by almost all airlines from Europe and Overseas. Other airports close to Ruedesheim are Cologne and Düsseldorf. From these cities, it is then possible to travel by train via Mainz and Wiesbaden to Ruedesheim. Low-price airlines fly to Hahn airport from where bus connections to Koblenz, Mainz and Frankfurt are available.

For further questions or more information please do not hesitate to visit our web site at www.strenda.org/escec4.html or to contact me
via telephone +49 69 7167 3221 or email to ckettner[at]beilstein-institut.de

I am looking forward to welcome you in Ruedesheim.

Yours sincerely,

Carsten Kettner
