I am interested in taking a microscopy course sometime this summer or fall and it seams there are several good ones in the NYC area (MBL, Pitt, Cold Spring Harbor, etc.). I am mainly learning about florescence microscopy for live and fixed cells, but I am a beginner so I would need a more basic course.
I was wondering had suggestions on which courses they have taken and liked. Also are there any fellowships or grants willing to fund a predoctoral student wishing to take a course (they all seem to be about $3000).
Thanks for your help!

Hi Caryn,
I think John Murray’s CSHL course and Simon Watkins course (which is what I think you mean by the Pitt course, but it’s actually in Maine) are the best for beginners. I’ve taught in the CSHL course (as well as AQLM at MBL), and I sent my technician to Simon’s course.
I think most of these courses offer some fellowships, but you have to apply and get in before you know how much you’ll get.
