mRNA/tRNA interaction

I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether anything is known about the detailed interaction between mRNA and tRNA on an individual codon level. I am interested whether tRNA/mRNA interaction is initiated via the first or second base of the codon. Is the mRNA read in a simple 1-2-3 motion, a pivoting 2-1-2-3 interaction, or perhaps in a completely different way?
I’m asking because I recently rearranged the genetic code in a way that seems more logical to me:
(gold: second codon base, red: first base, green: third base, white: amino acids in one-letter abbreviation, n: non-polar, p: polar, +: basic, -: acidic, OH: hydroxyl group, *: special features)
The next question to me was how this importance of the second base could be achieved. The obvious answer to this problem may be found in the structure of tRNA synthetases, but another approach may include the kinetics of tRNA/mRNA interaction.
