I’ve registered for the event some time ago and then there was an option to upload CV. I wanted to do it now, but couldn’t find how to do it. Or will the network profiles be passed on to potential employers? Thanks

    • Hi Matja,

We’re looking forward to seeing you on the day!

We’ll be sending a mail out to all of those job seekers registered (currently over 1,000 pre-registered) sometime in the next week. It’ll contain information on the confirmed speakers, exhibitors and details on how to submit your CV.

You can get ahead of the game and send your CV to – naturejobscv@nature.com

This information will be passed to the exhibitors prior to the event but with such a large number of registerants I would advise to print and bring copies of your CV on the day. This will make their lives a little easier and show that you’re highly organised.

We are asking employers to participate in the forums and use the profiles as a guide to identify people that may be of interest for them but this is at early stages and something we hope to develop further in the future.

Good luck on the day and I hope you enjoy it!

Anything we can do just let us know.

      Thanks

      Andy and the naturejobs team

    • Sorry that link to the email doesn’t work, try naturejobscv@nature.com

    • Hi Andy,

thanks for your reply and suggestions. I’ll submit my CV as you suggested and also bring copies with me.

I’m really looking forward to the event.

      See you there,

      Maja

    • Another thing, I’ll be on holidays for the next two weeks. Is there something else we’ll have to do for the event, like saying which sessions we want to attend?

      Thanks

      Maja

    • There’s not too much more that you need to know although the sessions will be on a first come first served basis so I’d get to the one’s you want to attend nice and early.

As you’re going on holiday if you send me an email I’ll give you a peak at what we have lined up and we’re just awaiting a couple of confirmations.

Looking at your profile the event will be well suited to you especially as we’ve got a good list of organisations coming involved in cancer research such as – CRUK, Patterson Institute, AstraZenca.

      Enjoy the break!

    • thanks for the info Andrew. Could you also email me the line up for the day once everything gets finalised?

    • On its way Rajat!

    • Andrew/Others- Some advice please.
For a academic job in UK, do you think sending CV to university without a post already being advertised is of any use?
I have just submitted my CV for source event via the email above.. I am wondering if anybody would even be looking at it.

    • Hi again Manish, I’ve just been sifting through the posts and thanks for posting your comments. Hopefully these types of discussions can help everyone out and give some good advice on applying and find jobs.

Specifically about this comment I would recommend sending your CV and a cover letter to departments (I’d do it directly to a group head you want to work with) who aren’t advertising. I’ve seen lots of stats about how scientists find jobs and always at the top of the list are ‘through my network’ or ‘direct application’. I’ve got a bunch of stats that I’ve used in presentations but here are some things you may find interesting –
38% of jobs are filled internally
37.1% come from employee referral (i.e. someone who already works there)
This means there’s a huge number of jobs which are never advertised and applying directly or using your own contacts is the only way to get them.

In short, keep on doing what you’re doing but make sure you do your research on the people your applying to. A more targeted approach may help.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

    • I am very keen on being a part of this event. However, I realized yesterday that I had not sent in my completed form confirmation my registration for the source event. I have sent in my application but does this mean I will not be registered? Also can you send me a detail of the event once they are finalised.
