Anyone have any ideas for future speakers, meeting places, gathering, socials, parties, shindigs, forums, workshops, or anything else of that nature?

I need to learn how to do podcasting at some point the near future. I’d love to get a workshop together on that. UNC has a great journalism program and some broadcast classes. Wonder if they’d set something up for us?

Great idea. The D.C. science writers recently had a workshop and the podcasting was a topic.

There is a local fellow who is a real expert at podcasting…I’ve seen him present before, and he’s very good at it. I’d be happy to contact him about presenting at a SCONC meeting or conducting a workshop – not sure if he charges, but we can certainly find out. If he does charge, would we have a budget for that sort of thing? Or do we need to reserve it until we have some funding support?
I think the first thing to understand is that there are really two elements at work with podcasting – the technical, to ensure that you’re getting proper distribution and your product sounds good, and the more traditional tenets of radio/audio journalism, which are really unaffected by the specific transmission medium.

Ernie, if you wouldn’t mind looking into the local guy, we could probably find the funds to get him out to do a workshop. The only folks I know are in D.C.
