Stamen and Modest Maps

Has anybody tried out Modest Maps, the library that Stamen are using for a lot of their map based visualizations (I think)?
I don’t have Flash, so I haven’t given it a go myself, but it looks quite slick…

Euan, I’ve just tested their demo by zooming on my own town; I could zoom until I saw the south part of France , then the zoom was disabled.

There’s also Mapstraction, which does a similar thing (abstracting over different map providers) but in javascript.
