I did ask you to let the group know when you’ve a new book out, or an article that we should track down – so I’m obeying my own request.
I’ve just got a new book out called The Global Warming Survival Kit. It starts with a summary of what climate change could throw at us, particularly if concerns about feedback and recent reports of change happening faster than predicted are true. The main part of the book is a guide to dealing with the implications of climate change, from powercuts and floods to extremes of heat and cold.
It’s aimed at the general reader, either as a household reference or gift. I know it’s not exactly a heavy science title, though there’s quite a lot of scientific content in the introductory chapter, but I do want to encourage more members of this group to post information. We’ve over a hundred science writers here – if you’ve nothing else to say, do tell us what you are writing about!

Here’s an interesting and related question: What’s the best book you’ve read on climate change?
The last time I browsed the Popular Science section of my local Borders, half of it was taken over by climate change books. So, let’s have a go at sorting the good stuff from the dreck.
As a good overview of the field, I was really impressed by the Rough Guide to Climate Change. They are obviously a travel publishers first, but their new science range is surprisingly well-written and informative.

Congratulations, Brian. It looks interesting, but it’s a shame the “search inside tool” is not available at Amazon.
How long did you take to write this book?
What am I writing about? As my business is magazine, the time scale is pretty shorter compared to books, but to give you an idea: in September I wrote four stories (biological drugs, bipolar disorder in childhood, RNA interference and neurogenesis/stem cell therapies).
For October, I have so far in the pipeline: biotechnology in medicine, prion diseases and the 2007 Nobel Prize in Medicine.
And I did not include here my work as editor – that’s why is so difficult to find time to post here, but I promise I’ll try a bit harder:-)
All the best,
Luciana
