Blogging about fictional scientists - who is your favourite?

We all have favourite movie characters, but who is your favourite fictional scientist and mathematician?
It is quite difficult to compile a list of fictional mathematicians, but at Plus we have given it a go. Scientists are often portrayed in films — usually as mad — but there are very few who are specialised mathematicians. We think we have come up with a list that covers most well-known fictional mathematicians, although it is debatable whether some are even mathematicians at all! We are asking for your opinion — who is your favourite?
The link to the maths poll is here
Have we missed yours off the list? Please leave a comment here or on the blog
As a complement to this, I set up a poll on my own blog about your favourite fictional scientist (not simply mathematician.) In the spirit of voting, cast your vote here

No doubt at all: Frederick Frankenstein in Mel Brook’s Young Frankenstein!

I can’t remember what answer I gave last time, but I think it was Doc from Back to the Future.

Oh, sorry, I see you are asking about fiction, not films, apologies. I quite like Martin Arrowsmith. My worst is Causubon from George Eliot’s Middlemarch. I’ve met his sort before!

mmhmm. I thought the question was for “fictional” in general…

Nobody has a vote for Dr. Horrible?

Samantha Carter from Stargate SG-1!

Too bad! At the moment, Dr. Horrible is available only in the america iTunes…

Thanks to all those who replied to these polls!
We have had a great response to the maths poll with over 700 votes and 25 comments so far on the blog (as well as others here and on reddit).
We don’t want to close the poll yet, so keep your votes and thoughts coming. The link to the poll is here
On the fictional scientist poll, the response has also been good, and to go with the poll, my podcast joined forces with the brains matter show to record a podcast over Skype discussing your suggestions and our favourite fictional scientists from over time.
You can listen to the podcast, and vote in the poll, over on the site
We would really love your feed back on all the sites and podcasts above!
