Travel to conference by Rail

I’ve just been trying to sort out trains to get from Middle Earth…England to London for the conference and noticed that there is a large quantity of engineering works and speed restrictions going on that weekend (well, every weekend, but I don’t travel every weekend!).
Just thought I’d suggest that anyone planning to go by rail on the morning of the conference, or travelling anywhere on the Sunday may want to double check their train times! It will probably take 3 times longer than usual to travel on the Saturday morning or Sunday.

Yes, just done a similar thing – six hours and four changes…couldn’t believe it! Also thought they were going to charge me three times as much for the ‘privilege’ until I accidentally came across the saver return option. So much for ‘simplifying’ the booking system. Ah well, I’ll just have to pack a few good books and load up my ipod.

Ouch Clare! The worst I saw (London to Stoke-on-Trent) was 5 hours with 1 hour break and 4 changes. I’m going to leave the car at Warwick and get the train over from there. At least it will only be 1.5 hours by train on the Sunday then an hour by car to get back home.

I just spent the weekend in Harrogate, returning yesterday (Sunday) so I echo this good advice with the bitterness of recent experience.
At the moment, the Victoria underground line is closed every Sunday for “planned upgrade works”. However, they don’t allow
passengerscustomers (as we are nowadays called) to plan ahead by telling them. Try to avoid the Victoria line on Sunday 31 August (unless you can find out for sure that it is running). -
Just looked up London to Southampton on the Sunday 31 and there don’t seem to be major issues except for some overnight works around Eastleigh which will naturally be finished by mid afternoon :)

Think it might be just the north-western line, Cameron – because Katherine and I seem to be intent on heading in a similar direction!

I booked my rail tickets last night. YIPEE, I AM actually going to be there. ‘Twas a bit unsure for me but it’s simply too good an opportunity miss.
So what made me decide to attend? I feel a blog post coming on…..
