We will try to answer any questions you have regarding accommodation (e.g. location of your hotel, transportation) in this forum. We will not be reserving a block of rooms for attendees but can suggest a few good websites to look for accomodation in London. Several good resources are listed below, in general order of descending price range. The Royal Institution of Great Britain is located in Mayfair in the London Borough of Westminster. Accommodation with London postcodes of “W1”, “WC1” and “WC2” are within travelling distance of the Ri.

• TimeOut London has a list of hotels on their site

• For affordable decent b&b accommodation, with various search options, price ranges and interactive maps, please consult Alastair Sawday’s Special Places To Stay

• University of London offers short-term accommodation over the summer break in its Halls of Residence, most of which are in central London. More details can be found on the University of London Housing Services site

    • I’m putting a reply to your post, Li-Kim, to move it up the “table of contents” list of the forum entries. I think people are missing this useful information and continuing the “where to stay I” thread… I hope a few people will see your useful links this way.

    • Thanks Erika, and thanks very much Li-Kim. I like the sound of Special Places to stay – shall investigate.

    • i have another question .. since this seems to be a nature event of sorts, is there any financial compensation offered to attendees who are traveling to attend?

    • Just to say, thanks for the tips! I found housing at the Ifor Evans dormitory at a very reasonable price. It even convinced me to stay over Thursday and not miss the walking tour on Friday, if Matt will let me join in. See you there, GrrlScientist…

    • hey everyone, i made my reservations for the conference. i found a hostel that is in the W1 postcode, and is costs upwards from 12BP per night (i paid 146BP total for 10 nights)—clean linens and blankets included, and no limit on the length of time you can be in the shower. they have a breakfast room and lounge, laundry facilities, free lockers (bring your own padlock) and also have wifi, but i am not sure if it costs extra (probably does). they also do NOT have a curfew, and no lockouts, so none of us will be sleeping on the streets if we stay out a little too late partying.

i booked an 8-bed share, and included “European Science Blogging Conference” in the comments, hoping that some of us can share the same room if you decide to stay at this place.

    • i am having some trouble with accommodations. kings college wants me to call them on the phone (they don’t say why) and i cannot do this because my phone does not permit overseas phone calls. can someone else in london call them for me and find out what their problem is? i am worried i’ll arrive and find i won’t have any place to stay!
