Clare – I don’t know whether you can get a discount for block bookings (although I believe that groups do use the accommodation over the summer). The rates for individuals are here for Beit Hall , here for Princes Gardens and here for Pembridge Gardens.
(three different IC halls). I’m going to put this suggestion on the other thread too.

Here’s Li-Kim’s forum post about conference accommodation: she started a new thread in the forum about it, but everyone is continuing the accommodation conversation here.

I suggest that anyone else wanting to know about accommodation does not continue the conversation in this thread but heads over to Li-Kim’s thread here as she’s posted a “conference organiser’s notice” about it. Perhaps people on Li-Kim’s thread could confirm where they are staying or organise a group booking among themselves.

I do recommend checking whatever rate it is, against the suggestions that Li-Kim has posted, Li Kim is a publisher at Nature Network and has kindly researched some cheap accommodation for people attending the conference. See three replies up for the link, and again above that.

That sounds good, Erika. Do you know if we all make a block booking – could we get a reduced rate? Whatever the rate is…I can’t seem to find it, but maybe I’m being dumb.

I frequently come down to London and have found Google maps pretty good. I just put in the post-code of the venue, click on ‘find businesses’ with bed and breakfast in the box and a lot of possibilities appear on the map. Then you can go through the list clicking on further information and see what other customers think and the prices. It takes a little time but so far it’s worked very well for me!

You might be able to get accommodation through the University of London, staying in one of their halls of residence. For example, College Hall http://www.london.ac.uk/699.html.

I think I stayed there about 10 years ago at the London International Youth Science Forum, and it was OK, pretty central and fairly cheap!

I also am attending the conference—coming in from NYC —and need a cheap (affordable) place to crash. i am housebroken, a nonsmoker, and quiet. i am also open to sharing expenses on a hotel room with other people, if absolutely necessary (trying to keep my expenses as minimal as possible, so i can stay as long as possible).

It’s looking more and more like I’m not going to make it because my brother, the selfish git, is getting married on the 20th of September and asked me to be his best man. I can’t see my boss letting me have three weeks off work, even if I could go to a conference.

My folks live in St. Albans, just outside the M25, so it would have been perfect. Ho hum.

I wanna pay my brother back for his terrible timing, maybe I can volunteer him (well, his house) as a hotel. :) I’m sure his boy can sleep in the shed for the weekend. Maybe keep Henry & chicken company?

I like the idea of a block booking (us Scots are particularly good in looking for good deals)

My last but one overnight accom in Edinburgh was a nice B & B 10 mins walk from Princess Street which cost a whopping £25 two years ago.

It’s increasingly likely that I will be attending and looking forward to it.

The Times today carries a review of the Victoria hotel. However, it is in Richmond (actually, from the postcode, Barnes more like) so not central London—would be a 20-30 min train ride out. Not as far as where I live, but not ideally near.

Its a good point actually. Perhaps someone can suggest somewhere reasonably near, cheap, and decent (those three generally being mutually exclusive in London) and we can try to do a block booking?

You could stay in my flat for the weekend. OK, it’s on the other side of Europe, but I won’t be there. And Jack says the chicken will be more than welcome.

I’ll also be looking for somewhere to stay, and I know others will to. Perhaps this will be a good spot to shout out if you need accommodation. And for those unable to find a free park bench, can someone suggest somewhere reasonably cheap, and well located for crawling back after Matt’s pub crawls?
