science on film
I came across an ad when I was flicking through my copy of Nature recently which seemed very interesting… the Wellcome Trust are providing (a limited number of) scientists with an intensive course in filmmaking. The deadline is very soon i.e. 10 Dec 2007.
If the Niche prize competition was not closed to NPG employees, I would apply for a place on this course, produce (what I hope would be) a stupendously good short film and enter it for the Niche prize... although perhaps a Nature Network user will take up this challenge!

Glad to discover in this increasingly online world that I am not the only person to “flick” through a copy of Nature each week, Li-Kim ;-)
Or maybe you’re using an e-reader? (not, I am sure!) -
I blogged about this elsewhere, but the BlueSci group at Cambridge have a wonderful documentary about the Large Hadron Collider – put together by students in their spare time.

I have not used an e-reader yet, Maxine! However I am tempted by the Kindle, which looks stylishly retro. There is a semi-persuasive argument for it in the online “issue” of New York Times today. However it does not offer Harry Potter :)
Thanks for the link, Matt. I will watch the documentaries at full volume when I get home!

Ah … the Kindle is evil … makes you pay to download blogs and .. DRM
It’s strange. I haven’t read a scientific publication in print form in a while (not even printed out), but I can’t even think of using an ebook reader to read, e.g. Lord of the Rings
