Reply from Naomi Temple

Hi Scott,

Good point. We would very much like to offer more significant funding to support the winner’s development of their installation, along with a cash prize. We were disappointed that we were not able to offer this for the first year of the prize, but felt that the opportunity to have art installations displayed at our royal opening and for the subsequent year was too good to miss.

Hopefully we will be able to offer a prize next year, and for future years of the project. If anyone reading would be interested in working with us, give me a bell!

Reply from Scott Keir

It is a lovely idea, but it is a shame that the winning artists receive no payment or other recompense – the “prize” is being displayed for a year in the Ri. The winners travel expenses for attending the unveiling are covered, and there’s a line saying that “within reason” costs incurred with installing the winning artworks will be covered, but that’s that.

I hope that, in spite of that, some seriously good art (and some seriously good artists) respond.
