Watermarked preprint documents

It would be helpful if Nature Precedings puts a watermark on its preprint documents. Such a watermark can have the article identifier and a link back to the always-correct, original version at Nature Precedings.

    • It would also be good for the watermark to have the date of acceptance at Nature Precedings, especially since it seems that most authors do not put in a date in their manuscripts.

    • All documents at ArXiv receive a watermark with their arxiv identifier in the margin, which makes it easy to reference the original document (where one can also find the date of acceptance). This seems to be very helpful and is definitely something we’re looking into.

    • The Nature Precedings team is proud to announce that we’ve added a watermarking feature in a recent release of the site. On the top of each PDF, one will now see a watermark containing the following text:

      Nature Precedings : doi:10.1038/npre.2008.1655.1 : Posted 4 Mar 2008

(From The What, Why and How of openness in science by Foerstner & Jensen)

In the case that the PDF is downloaded and then emailed to colleagues, any recipients will be able to find the original version by using the handle or doi. (doi:10.1038/npre.2008.1655.1 => http://dx.doi.org/10.1038/npre.2008.1655.1)

Please continue to let us know what features you’d like to see and if we can improve anything on the site.
