Wish lists for this site

For those of you who’ve been playing around on here, the UK site still hasn’t been officially launched and the folks at Nature are wondering what other features we’d like to see.
They’re having a BIG meeting (with cake and everything) on Wednesday 7th March, to discuss which of their 100 or so plans for new features they’re going to build next. If there are 3 things you’d really like to see on the Forums page (or anywhere else on the site for that matter), it’d be really good to know. Your wish is not quite their command; but not far off…

Hey John,
I cannot really say 3 things but I find the web site a bit confusing sometimes (Ok, ok, I admit I’m not the cleverest person ever when doing this kind of blogging things) but I’ve seen other networking web sites that I find (or at least look more) user friendly. I’m talking about “LinkedIn”. Do you know it?
I’m supposed to have a chat with Andrew next week about the the career fair and the web site. I feel really embarrassed about giving “great ideas” because I know by personal experience that everybody has great ideas…the problem as usual is how to implement them…but if my input can contribute in making it a bit less “complicated” for blogger-borderline people like me, well, there you go.

I’d like a bigger space in which to write replies.
I’d like it to be slightly easier to go to groups I’m a member of from the initial login page.
I’d like a mouseover that helps with the textile formatting, because I am quite stupid and lazy.

Yeah, I agree with all of your comments! I don’t like the resizing that happens when I move between windows (that’s apparently an Explorer thing which they’re working on), and the moving-about-within-groups is still a little buggy (it won’t take you back to the homepage when you click on the group name in the Forum, for example). Still, our comments count and all that, so hopefully it’ll be sorted out before the official launch!
And, Vanessa, I’m in the process of writing something up about the careers fair, but would it be worth arranging some sort of collaborative thing? More about that in a bit…

I agree with other replies. It is such a nightmare to go to groups ! I think as we start up, we should have a link to aslt topic or reply written on the network we are on because we always want to know what has been said recently in the network. A bigger place should be good. It also could be good to send private message if we wish to.
Th layout could be improved as the font type/color with a white background is not really straightforward.
Also what about the possibility chat or organise chat/video conference with scientists ?Is the meeting open to others ? and is it in london? I would love to go !

Hi John,
Sure it would be really nice to come up with something for the careers fair. Drop me a line or give me a phone call. I should send an e-mail to Andrew by the way.

I noticed that the list of publications on one’s personal profile are by default listed in order of entry, which means that as you add new references, the most recent go to the bottom. It would be ideal if they were listed from most recent to or if an option were provided.
