is anyone from NYC NN involved in the World Science Festival ?
There was an article about it in NYT today (in the Arts section, oddly) according to which the purpose is very much like the purpose of this group (except more muppets):
““The most exciting city in the world is going to be a little more exciting,” Mr. Alda said at a news conference at New York University.”

here are a few of the events that i think look interesting:
stories of experiments gone wrong
visualizations of quantum mechanics (hopefully not too hokey and hopefully sticks to visualizing actual math)
mathemagician (a professor from my undergrad institution, harvey mudd, whose show is entertaining)

Thanks for the link, Chris. A lot of cool stuff there. I’d like to echo Chris’ call to see if anyone in the NYC NN group is involved in this festival. We support our own.

This was the “blurb”: http://www.columbia.edu/cu/physics/ance/WorldScienceFestival.html on the Columbia site in March. I read the NYTimes article and the muppet worries me. Note to naturals: Alan Alda is a tag? Really?
