Reply from Jennifer O'Brien

I just joined this forum today and saw this posting about the beer gathering. What a great idea! I won’t be able to make it this time, but I wanted to put a vote in for rotating through a few different venues/locations or making the time later. I am one of those coming from Columbia Med.

Thanks! Looking forward to the next one.

noah,
notice that lower case is looking more and more attractive—the cool kids are doing it. and spam has its place and time. how does corie email the boston tab? does she has “natural” privileges that the average joe lacks?

I’m a big fan of directed word-of-mouth to friends and colleagues as opposed to general spam. Hopefully having the notice board announcement up will “spam” the relevant people who trickle over to the group homepage.

I intend to work on the my neuroscience contingencies, who I know to be quite fond of their beer, so hopefully it will be easy to convince some of them to join in.

sounds good. but how to we promo this? i don’t think we’re allowed to “spam” everyone in the NYC NN. Naturals, (i.e., Nature employees (e.g., Noah)), any ideas?

I refuse to conform to the new “cool” trend of using no caps!! Once more than one person is doing it, it isn’t cool anymore…I learned that in the East Village…

Okay, Lucky Jack’s it is, with people getting together around 17:00ish. The idea of alternating around town is beautiful. As we get more people involved, we will make this a more regular event, once a month or so. Thanks for the map, Chris, and see you there.

1) i am thrilled to have contributed to science by demonstrating critical time-saving tricks like all-non-caps. enjoy!

2) fair enough re: lack of meeting of the 2/3. a century of subway design conspires to prevent columbians and rockefellas/cornellians from joining for beer. perhaps we should alternate between places on the 4/5 and places on the 2/3. also happy to have someone other than me suggesting a specific bar.

do we hear any objections? if not, let’s make it Lucky Jack’s (map here )

chris – you have inspired me. caps is for the paps. i too will follow your lower case lead and save time and money. or just keystrokes.

first things first. do the red and green lines ever converge? no. i think not.
and that should be topic and the reason to meet for beer. we could take turns—tour of nyc via beers.

what about a irish pub in the les? Say Lucky Jack’s on orchard and rivington.
next time we could meet in the northlands of uws, maybe at dead poet. or i heard the heights will let us have a whole floor and even offer drink specials.
