Nature Network Blogger Meeting?

Over at Annas blog we had started talking about a Nature Network Blogger meeting. Not everybody could make it to the Science Blogging Conference in North Carolina last weekend, especially those of us not living in North America.

Who would be interested in meeting in person somewhere in Europe later this year? Depending on the interest, we could either just have a fun day (sort of an extended NN Pub night) or organize a small science blogging conference.

    • My chips are in Martin.

    • Naturally, I’d be interested.

    • Me too!
We need an icon for this group (along with a definitive name, as prompted by Anna)

    • I’d be interested, and even though I’m already headed to Germany this summer, I’d like to see how far I can stretch my American dollars twice if people decide they’d like to meet in Europe…

    • There’s a good chance we’ll be at the ESOF2008# conference in Barcelona.

That might be a fun place to organise something.

    • ESOF2008 looks like a perfect event for a science blogger meeting. The conference takes place July 18-22 in Barcelona. That doesn’t give us much time if we want to meet there. Should we find out whether there is still space in the program for a Nature Network Blogger event? We could for example do a podium discussion or a series of short talks.

    • Hello, I am interested in a meeting, too.
The best name for the group is “Nature network bloggers” in my opinion, as it correctly says what we are, what we do and where we do it.

    • I’m interested too, though I think for solidarity with the Climate Change forum I could only attend if it was in the UK (and preferably within walking distance of my village, 5 miles east of Swindon, though I accept this is highly unlikely). (Having said that, this is a village with one shop, one church, one school and seven pubs.)

I know we’re cross threading here, but I’m with Maxine on the name (though I do agree with someone on the main thread that Bloggers is a horrible word) – let’s keep away from painful puns and funnies. The other alternative, I guess, is to use meaningless (in this context) but important sounding name like Plethora or Serendipity.

    • Is there a village hall, too, Brian? If so, sounds a great venue.

    • I suggest that the Nature Network Bloggers hold their meeting on the beach in Cromer where I live. Great place for parties. It would have to be the East Beach, naturally (the West Beach is a bit naff, in my view). If it’s winter, dress up warm (actually, that applies to summer, too).
