Consolidated Nature Network group feed

Here is another incredibly useful tool, written by Euan Adie. It is, as it says on the tin, a Nature Network consolidated group feed.
If you follow the instructions at the link, you can follow all the activity in Nature Network groups of which you are a member, as one RSS feed.
At first I thought this was similar to the Nature Network snapshot, but it isn’t. Euan says:
[there are] two issues – one is keeping up to date with group forums and the other is the snapshot. It’s because up to now I only ever remembered to check a group when somebody I was following posted there. :) This is a consolidated feed of new forum and noticeboard posts by anybody in the group, though.
If you already use RSS, it is very easy to create your feed, by following Euan’s instructions at his post.
Thanks, Euan!

    • And if you like the consolidated feed, play around with Yahoo Pipes for your own customized version. I made a slightly different version that only shows my group posts, helpful for places like FriendFeed. My name is unfortunately hard-coded, so you have to modify the Pipes.

    • I really like this idea as it will be much easier to retrieve group news. It was easy to set up (thanks Euan) but I do have one question. Does the news only show up when it is first posted? Right now I dont see any of the older news.
    • Yes, Pamela, all the new forum posts should show up, but you are right, they haven’t been showing for a few days. I’ll ask Euan if he can take a look as I am a bit (well, very, actually) scared to “modify the Pipes”.

    • Apologies, “anonymous” above is me.

    • It seems to be working again now, Pamela. I have experience of another “Yahoo pipes” consolidated feed and it can be slow to update sometimes, so maybe that’s it.

    • This is desperately slow of me, but I have finally added the Pipes consolidator thingie as an RSS feed for all group activities. It is wonderfully useful and it’s making me very happy. I can only hope to keep up with the discussions have as well as Maxine does!

    • Euan was away for a few days but he said he’d look at this today, just to check.

Thanks Anna – I am now a bit of a magpie I have to admit, from my small start on the Ask the Nature Editor forum.

    • Oops. I meant ‘half’, not have. Sorry bout that.

    • now it is working great!
      thanks everyone
