Well, I’m a n00b to the NN blog, and Corie has been bullying me to go. I’ll be in the UK for a wedding in September and some of the dates look like they overlap. Looking forward to meeting y’all there!

@Heather: I will probably be doing this ‘on work time’ which means in effect the cost of the train ticket into London will come off a grant or something. But its easier for me. This is ‘my research area’ in many ways.

Incidentally I would like to put in a partial vote for the unconference thing. But I would strongly recommend having a partial schedule so that it is possible to give people who intend to travel an ‘invitation to speak’. This will make it much easier for people to get travel costs covered

Me, too. From Nature’s perspective, editors will be attending from their own pockets, and as it is a Saturday we don’t get to have a day out of the office “for work reasons” either, but are donating our “own time” ;-). But, we don’t mind, it is going to be great to have a European opportunity to meet Nature Network (and other science) bloggers.

I’m really curious: how many of you, if any, are going to justify this as a “work-related expense” and try to not pay for this out of your own pocket?

It’s a conference, after all. It permits networking with people who could be professionally useful in the future. I’m a bit torn.

I’d be happy to go to the conf & my vote goes to 13 September. August 30 could work too as I’ll be back in Europe late August. I suggest including as many SciFoo-like unconference elements as it is possible.

Naturally, this won’t appeal to everyone – no date will – but it’s the best compromise of blogger feedback and organisational logistics.

Later on, I will start a new forum especially for this conference, where we can plan the structure and content. And, of course, the after-meeting drinks.

Hello Clare, nice to see you here. I think part of the reason for a Saturday is that the Royal Institution is more available on Saturdays. Maybe also cheaper ;-)

Hello Matt, Maxine introduced us on Monday.

I’m looking forward to this conference – sounds excellent. Any date would be fine for me.

However, just for future reference, Saturday isn’t necessarily better for this particular non-Londoner. Perhaps this is just my section of the network but trains tend to take about an hour longer, are less frequent and more expensive…mad, but true…
