Science Blogging Conference: Full Steam Ahead

Good news all. The Royal Institution in London (where 10 chemical elements were discovered) have offered to host a European science blogging conference later this year, if we organise it.
Whoop!
ScienceBlogs are also onboard for this, so with you guys and their guys we’ll have an impressive gathering.
The first thing to do is pick a date.
To avoid clashes with the RI’s busy events schedule, and to make it easier for non-Londoners to attend, we think a Saturday would be best. The RI is available on these dates.
Aug 16th, 23rd, 30th
Sept 13th
So, what works best for people?

I would suggest some time later in August. I haven’t heard for sure when Scifoo will be, but last year, it was in early August. I suspect some Scifoo-ers will want to attend this conference too. FWIW, Aug 30 is the beginning of the Labor Day long weekend here in the US.

There are probably still conferences on in August, so September might be better. OTOH, I know of one ScienceBlogger who wants to attend but has been invited to a meeting in September. I can’t remember when that is, though.

Matt, this is great news! Any of those dates would work for me. And I would help in organizing if there is something that can be done from a distance.

Scifoo is August 8-9-10 and so is the Seed NYC meetup.
I guess it should also not conflict with this:

Wonderful news! I am happy to hear that the plans are moving along. I would absolutely love to be there. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help with the organization of the meeting. I have to vote against Sept 13, however, for whatever it’s worth. I have unalterable plans for that day, sadly.

Might I make a pleas for September rather than August? My little darlings will be back at school by then so it’s easier for me to
make mischiefgo to conferences. -
I agree, after the school hols is best for me too, and probably others—i.e. September.

Wow, was vaguely thinking of suggesting something like this. Glad someone else has volunteered and would love to come
Sept 13 is right after the UK e-science all hands meeting and clashes with a meeting at Oxford Internet Institute as well as the tail end of Science in the 21st Century which is probably less of a concern to most but would make it hard for me and Bora to come. It would be a shame to clash with scifoo obviously.
Jean-Claude Bradley is in the UK around August 30 so that could be a good date, certainly from my perspective. But broadly at least, all those dates are possible for me except for September 13

I would be happier with September 13 myself. I could stop by on my way to Boston for the RRS/ASTRO meeting.
