What is a photon? Light speed problem...

Basic question: What is a photon? I understand it is a massless thing but if that is true how does it have energy and manage to interact with things? How can something be something with no mass? What the hell?!

Complex question: It’s impossible to accelerate something to the speed of light as it would become infinitely heavy and you can’t accelerate something that’s infinitely heavy. Why do things get heavier if they move faster? Time’s also dilates as you approach the speed of light… why?

Last question: Is it possible to simulate light speed (or faster)? Imagine the following: two discs side by side. One is spinning at 1/2 the speed of light and the other is doing the same but in the opposite direction. The [very dizzy] observer on the edge of the disc would be moving at light speed relative to the other observer. If the discs were rotating at 3/4 speed of light then they’d be be observing each other moving faster than the speed of light. What would that look like?
