Intellectual property (IP) filing in life sciences

I am trying to help my former Ph.D. advisor (now living in Switzerland) file a provisional patent application (in the US) for a discovery he made in an independent sabbatical project in the US.
He will personally pay for the filing and patent attorney fees, so we are looking for an attorney who could help us file for a reasonable price. The filing (US PTO) price is ca. $150; is it possible to find a patent attorney who could help us for less than a few thousand $ (max. $2500) ?
The description of the invention and claims are written, and further development of the invention is underway (friend’s academic lab in Switzerland).
Thanks for any advice
