My group is developing bioinformatics software from last number of years, all softwares are available free for public. So far I never patent my software, I only take copyright. Nowadays I am getting pressure to take patent on our software in order to protect. I wants to know “Why patenting is important; is copyright is not sufficient to protect our rights”. In other words what is use of patent on software.
