Hello Everybody,
Allow me to introduce myself as the regional account manager for Berlin at naturejobs, the scientific recruitment arm of Nature.
As you may already have spotted, naturejobs is organising in its 2nd year running, the life sciences career event The Source Event here in London on the 26th September 2008. Due to the huge success of this event, we are looking to expand to other European cities, take the decisive leap over the channel and launch this event for the first time in continental Europe, with the first city of choice being Berlin. As I am among Berliners in this group, I would love to get your opinion on hosting The Source Event in Berlin next year. We are currently at the stage of prospecting venues – ideally, academic style venues with a capacity of 1000-1500 delegates – and any input you can give would be much appreciated. Looking forward to your feedback. Reya

Sounds like a great idea. I had attended several career events in Boston, including the annual European Career Fair @ MIT, and think that a similar event in Berlin could attract an equally large number of interested ‘exhibitors’ and keen ‘visitors’. I also think that the Nature Network Berlin group should become an active force behind such an effort!

Ya, sounds great. I’m really up for it and I think its a great chance for the new Berlin Network group to achieve something big like that!

A great idea indeed and most certainly welcomed by the academic community around here.
I checked the BDC’s web site (the location of the former source event) and the Berlin’s BCC is probably the best idea that I can come up with. It’s located close to Alexanderplatz, the nominal center of East Berlin and therefore well connected. It’s flair is not very “academic”; “post-socialist” might give you an idea of the style but not of the quality of the venue. -
I went to a meeting at the BCC earlier this year. I liked the venue and the location is of course perfect. And that is not because it’s very close to Berlin’s newest and largest shopping mall.
A smaller, but academic venue is the conference center at the Max Delbrück Center.

Thank you all for the enthusiasm and positive feedback, keep them coming! Martin and Roland, will look into your venue suggestions – very much appreciated. I’ll keep you posted!
Best, Reya -
Reya, the Henry-Ford-Bau is a another possible meeting location and belongs to the Free University Berlin. A picture of the 1200 seat main auditorium can be found here.

Will any of you be attending the Source Event in London this year?
