There is a wealth of information on Naturejobs.com relating to your career, but we have become aware that you might not be able to find it all!! If there are specific topics you’d like to know about (eg funding, fellowships, working abroad etc.) post a note here. If the information is on the site I’ll point you in the right direction, and if not, we will see about incorporating it in the future. Note that this can be as simple as CV/Cover letter/Interview tips – we would just like to know what you’d like to see!

Nice idea first of all.
I would like to know if anyone has experiences with coming from the academic site (doing your phd) thinking about getting some economic experiences working in a consultancy (e.g. health care, consulting pharmaceutical companies..)
Does it make sense to get a MBA?...just things like that. Alternatives to the academic career.

Hi Katha,
Thanks for your reply. Well, where to start? There are so many alternatives to an academic career and now there are more options for scientists than ever. You can check out a host of articles here, about careers you can pursue with a science background, ranging from science policy to law to scientific illustration.
More specifically to answer your question, Gene Russo the acting Editor of NJ has written a piece on Making the switch from science to business which you might find interesting. There are also options like sales, biotech business and finance to name a few.
It might also be worth checking out our section on Off the Bench Skills which has a section on Industry careers.
Good luck!
