Mutual Information

Hi,
1. Im a bit confused with regards to the difference between:I(X;Y;Z) and I(X;Y,Z)
2. Furthermore, I understand I(X;Y;Z) is not necessarily non-negative, so I presume it cannot be compared to normal mutual information. For instance I(X;Y;Z) – I(X;Y) is invalid?
3. How can one compute both I(X;Y;Z) and I(X;Y,Z) based on observed frequencies?
Could someone help me out? Thanks in advance.
