  At which level (PFTs or Species level) consider competition in forest plant communities?

  Is the competition the engine of the shift of plant communities or is the migration of the species to cuases new competition relationship in forest communities? Which is the first step, competition or shft?

  in animal communities it is obviously the immigration of species that causese changes in competitive abilities. In plant communities I don’t know any convingin study that shows the same.
