ribbon synapses are specialaized one which has fast continuous graded exocytosis capablitity . its present in retina inner hair cell of ear. its present is restricted to few places suggesting its functiona difference from the conventional sysnapse in tems of molecular, biochemical and physiological propertiies.

the known things about this specialized synapse are few.

to date few groups are working in this area. they try to study the vesicle exocytosis and endocytosis. but to know clear idea about the physiology we need a combinatotial effort from molecular biologist physicist, chemist, physiologist and computational biologist.
