    • Online networking for scientific careers

Lately I’ve been giving talks about the importance of online networking for careers in science (see here for a previous post about this). We all know how networking can help you learn about opportunities and even help you get your next job. In my talks, I try to make the case that using networking websites can further expand your circle of contacts and get your name out there. We’re already seeing lots of examples of this on Nature Network.

Online networking is also being talked about more in the science press. The latest example: Naturejobs has a feature article out, rounding up a bunch of different community/networking sites for researchers, including Nature Network!

While on the subject of Naturejobs, they have launched a new careers advice forum on NN. I invite you to join it and sign up for the e-alerts, as the moderator, Paul Smaglik (former Naturejobs editor), will soon begin posting more regularly to it. He’s going to invite specialists in science careers to join the discussion.
