This must be the season for new website launches. (NNB beta launched about a year ago.) First off, the New England RNA Data Club has just gotten its first website up (via Alex). Their next meeting is next month. I missed their first one, so I might try to go to the next one.
A couple of our users, Deepak and Hari, along with their colleagues have unveiled Bioscreencast, a website consisting of about 50 videos demonstrating how to use various software products for the life sciences. And you can create and upload your own screencasts. (I unfortunately wasn’t able to see the videos, likely because I don’t have the latest quicktime plugin. Also, the site works only with Firefox or Safari.)
And finally, friends of mine (people I used to work with at MIT’s Technology Review magazine) have launched a website that’s similar in philosophy to NNB, but a bit different in content focus. Xconomy is similar in that it centers on Cambridge/Boston (news, events, jobs coming soon), but is different in that it focuses more on business and technology (including the biotech industry). If this takes off, Bob Buderi, the editor-in-chief says that it could expand into other tech centers around the country. Where there’s good technology, there usually good science too, so I imagine NN and Xconomy might find themselves as neighbors in other parts of the US soon!

Hi Corie,
Just updating the readers of this blog post about Bioscreencast.com. The site now works on all major browsers Internet Explorer, Safari and Firefox .
Also all our screencasts are flash so no more issues with additional plugins. We have some cool user contributed videos from the folks at uniprot and the galaxy comparative genomics app. Not to mention Jean Claude Bradley.
Our library really relies on user contributions so thanks for mentioning us.
